Update: Parks Hit Capacity. Disney Announces Reopening Date for Boardwalk Inn
This week we learned that Disney’s Boardwalk Inn will reopen in time for summer along with several other Disney World hotels.
Reopening Schedule of Disney Resorts
Disney’s Beach Club Resort - May 30
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge - June 6
Disney’s BoardWalk Inn - July 2
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort - late July
Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts - unknown
Disney’s All Star Sports / Music - unknown
Recently I was on a conference call with Disney officials who shared that there would not be any operational changes until at least September at Walt Disney World.
But the park reservation calendar tells a different story. For the past several weeks, the parks have hit capacity on a daily basis. Operating hours have increased as well. For example, Epcot is opened until 10 PM this week.
The parks are now sold out until early July and Disney has yet to increase park capacity.
What’s interesting is that there are plenty of hotel rooms available in May, June and July. Park capacity is the problem.
It’s odd that Disney would unexpectedly announced the reopening of Boardwalk Inn. Why is Disney World adding additional hotel rooms in July when there’s already a surplus of rooms on property and a foreseeable shortage of park capacity?
Will Disney World increase park capacity sooner than expected? It would only make sense if they are bringing more hotels online.
Last week I shared that Fireworks View rooms at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge had been added to inventory starting in early July. They are basically Nature View rooms but because they have a view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks, they cost a lot more.
Obviously people want to come to Disney, the demand is certainly there, and Disney is able to open at 100% if it wanted to, according to the state of Florida.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we begin hearing about some operational changes much sooner than September.
